Houston Area Colleges

 

The city of Houston has many different colleges and universities who compete in sports at high levels and on the biggest of stages.  Houston area colleges have worked with the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority over the years to host national and unique sporting events.

The HCHSA worked with the University of Houston to host the All American Invitational for basketball.  Kansas, Colorado, Middle Tennessee, Lamar, Iowa State, Jacksonville St., North Texas, Wyoming, Southeastern LA, UL at Lafayette, and the University of Houston all participated.  Both the University of Houston and Rice University have partnered with the HCHSA to host multiple NCAA Championships including swimming and diving and the 2010 NCAA basketball tournament South Regional.  The HCHSA and the University of Houston were proud to host the 2010 Wheelchair Soccer Nationals. 

In 2010 and 2011, Minute Maid Park hosted the Houston College Classic which featured teams from the University of Houston, Rice, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Missouri, Utah, and Kentucky.  Houston has also been the site 2009 Conference USA Volleyball Championship and the 2007 O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Basketball Tournament.

Texas Southern University will begin playing Home football games at the brand new Dynamo Stadium in 2012.
