Harris County - Houston Sports Authority Celebrates 20 years

20th Anniversary Event to Benefit Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

 

The Harris County – Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) was formed in 1997 to oversee the construction and bond debt service for Minute Maid Park, NRG Stadium (formerly Reliant Stadium) and Toyota Center.  Today, 20 years later, the Sports Authority is a sports marketing arm for the city and county and has helped bring some of the biggest sporting events in the world to its venues.

Past and Present HCHSA Chairmen, including J. Kent Friedman, Jack Rains and Billy Burge, along with past and present CEO’s and board members celebrate with city and county officials, team owners and other instrumental parties involved over the last 20 years of the Sports Authority’s existence.

Silent Auction and other items for purchase to benefit the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority Foundation and its efforts to help Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

“We take a lot of pride in how successful we’ve been as an organization in achieving the goals we set out to achieve, which is one. making sure our bonds were in good shape, two, making sure the stadiums stayed in good shape and three, making sure we successfully promoted sporting events to Houston Texas” said,  J. Kent Friedman, Harris County – Houston Chairman of the Board.

“It’s been a terrific 20 years and I’m looking forward to the next 20 which I’m hoping will be bigger and better than the last 20.”

CEO, Janis Burke added, “I feel extremely lucky, blessed and proud,  it’s been an amazing journey, to see where we came from and where we are today, and there’s still more to do, more to come.

“I am most proud of our people, whether you’re talking about the leadership side and how well they work together or our volunteers or our team, I am super proud of the talent we have, the different experience’s they bring and most importantly how we work together as a team.”
