SWAC Football Championship Special Events Announced

 

HOUSTON – Officials with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) have announced the schedule of conference-sanctioned events in advance of the Toyota Football Championship on Dec. 7.  Events in Houston launch on Dec. 3 and carry on through Dec. 8.

Activities begin with The SWAC Takeover on Dec. 3 at NOx located at 4701 Nett St. and continue on Dec. 4 at Sugarhill Bar & Lounge located at 2533 Southmore Blvd.  The party on Dec. 5 moves to Mosaic Bar & Lounge at 5927 Almeda Rd with The SWAC Night Life: “Show Your HBCU Swag Night”.

Dec. 6 features multiple events including Jaheim with Chrisette Michele at Reliant Arena in the Official SWAC Kick-Off Concert.  Separate tickets are on sale for this event through www.ticketmaster.com.  The SWAC “TURN UP” Kick-Off Party will continue the night at Grooves of Houston located at 2300 Pierce St.  The final event of the night will be hosted at Bambou at 2540 University Blvd. where graduates are welcome to join The Official SWAC Alumni Kickoff.

Following the Toyota SWAC Football Championship on Dec. 7, The Official SWAC Alumni Post-Game Bash will take place at Grooves of Houston while Club Venue at 719 Main St. will host the Official SWAC Championship Party.  The championship party will feature DJ Babey Drew and DJ Traci Steele from VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.

The weekend’s activities will conclude at the House of Blues in downtown Houston with a special Kirk Franklin Presents Gospel Brunch as SWAC Goes Gospel.  Event tickets and additional information can be found at www.houseofblues.com/houston and guests can purchase discounted tickets with the password “SWAC”. 

Tickets to the 2013 Toyota SWAC Football Championship are available now.  Ticket prices range from $15-$50 and may be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com, on the phone at 1-800-745-3000, or in person at the Reliant Stadium box office located inside Budweiser Plaza.  A limited number of seats at the $30 value will be made available for $20 to groups of ten or more who purchase by phone at 281-367-9717.

The 2013 Toyota SWAC Football Championship will feature a showdown with division leaders from the East and West at Reliant Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1:00 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.  Immediately following the championship football game, all ten of the conference’s member institutions will participate in the Battle of the Bands.  Admission to see the band performances is included with the purchase of a game ticket.   Additional information may be found on the football championship’s official website at www.swacfootball.org

Southwestern Athletic Conference

The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), established in 1920, is a college athletic conference headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., which is comprised of historically black universities in the Southern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
