HOUSTON (May 31, 2013)—USA Rugby Men’s Head Coach Mike Tolkin announced the 28-man roster for the Eagles upcoming match against Ireland on Saturday, June 8th at BBVA Compass Stadium (www.bbvacompassstadium.com). The Eagles have been training in Glendale, Colo. following their Pacific Nations Cup match against Canada on May 25th in Edmonton.
Todd Clever will serve as the captain of the Eagles, a position he has held since the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The 30-year-old ranks third all-time for tries among national players and first among forwards. He currently plays professionally in Japan.
Houston will see stars Scott LaValla, Samu Manoa, Chris Wyles, and Takudzwa Ngwenya play with the Eagles having completed their international commitments. Ngwenya, a native of Zimbabwe, will be making a return to the Lone Star State as he spent time with the Plano Rugby Club and Dallas Athletic Rugby Club before joining the national team and playing professionally for Biarritz in France.
The USA Eagles will arrive in Houston Saturday, June 1st and Sunday, June 2nd with team practices beginning Monday, June 3rd at Strake Jesuit High School. A complete schedule of media availability, photo opportunities and community events will be released this afternoon.

The U.S. Men’s National Rugby Team, The Eagles, will host Ireland at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday, June 8th, as one of the only international matches being held in the U.S. this year. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. This match up offers rugby fans the opportunity to witness Ireland, a Tier 1 nation currently ranked 6th in world, battle on American soil against The Eagles, who are currently ranked 16th. The teams have previously faced off in 2009 and again in 2011 at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand; both matches resulted in victory for Ireland. The U.S. Men’s National Team will be seeking a long-awaited win as they face off again in Houston.

The inaugural Rugby Tailgating Contest is open to tailgating teams representing Team USA and Team Ireland. The event, which will award the grand prize presented by Kroger and Southern Comfort to the top tailgating team, will take place in Lots B & C adjacent to the stadium. Each team must register in advance online at www.bbvacompassstadium.com. Teams must be registered by Friday, May 31, 2013. Parking passes must be purchased in advance; parking for the tailgating contest will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams will be judged based on overall Tailgating Set-Up and Team Spirit.
