Cindy Clifford

Cindy Clifford

Director - City Position 1

Board of Directors

Biography

Cindy Clifford has played an active role in Houston’s business, political and civic landscapes since the late 1980s—about the same time she left the accounting profession to venture out and establish her own corporate marketing, public relations and government affairs firm, the Clifford Group, inc.

In the almost 25 years since, Clifford has grown her company in size and impact, working most recently with clients like United Airlines, HOK, RPS Klotz Associates, METRO, the Port of Houston Authority, and Yellow Cab, to name a few.  Her solid business acumen combined with killer instincts make her a valuable asset to any client or organization she serves. But for Clifford, it’s not all about business. She cares deeply about the health and heart of Houston—the city she adopted 30 years ago as her forever home. Her ideals and ethics reflect the Midwestern sensibility she grew up with, along with that unmistakable can-do spirit inherent to Texans (and Houstonians in particular).

Evidencing her willingness to roll up her sleeves and get things done, Cindy has volunteered for countless organizations, and served on many boards, including:

  • Ensemble Theater
  • Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Clean City Commission
  • Houston Public Library
  • Houston Proud
  • Diverseworks
  • End Hunger Network

While Cindy is happy with her accomplishments in the business and civic arenas, she is most proud of her role as a “$1 a year” special advisor to Mayor Lee P. Brown. For six years, she served as a volunteer liaison to the Mayor on women’s issues, and during that time, more women were appointed to boards, commissions and top-level staff positions within the Brown Administration than for any previous mayoral administration in the city’s history.

In recognition for her accomplishments and contributions, Cindy was named among the Fifty Most Influential Women in Houston by Houston Woman Magazine.  She is often asked to speak to groups and on panels about women and power.

Cindy has made her home in Houston in more ways than one. She is truly committed to the success of the city, serving as one of its most ardent supporters and tireless ambassadors. She believes in Houston—in all that it stands for, and all that it will become in the future.
