Why: Gateway to Gold EXPERIENCE is a free event designed to expose athletes (youth and adult) with physical disabilities or visual impairments to a variety of Paralympic sports. We encourage first time participants to come out and try all of the sports! It will be a fun day filled with educational and training opportunities.
All participants are asked to dress in weather-appropriate athletic attire. Wheelchair users are encouraged to bring their own racing or sport chair if possible. All athletes will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to participation.
For athletes under the age of 18, a parent signature will be required for participation during athlete check-in the morning of the event.
Event Overview:
Gateway to Gold is a talent identification program that will introduce people with Paralympic-eligible impairments to Paralympic sport and lead them to the athlete pipeline for the U.S. Paralympic Team. As a cornerstone of Gateway to Gold, U.S. Paralympics and its community partners, including National Governing Bodies, Paralympic Sport Clubs and veteran organizations are hosting introduction to sport and talent identification events across the country. The Gateway to Gold program is a prospective athletes’ first step toward the podium as well as a significant component in the organization’s mission to have the U.S. Paralympic Team ranked No. 1 in the world like its Olympic counterparts.
