HCHSA Welcomes New Team Members

Aug 29, 2023

It is with great excitement that we announce the arrival of two new employees who will be joining us starting next week. Please help us welcome Daniel Gotera and John Coppins to the HCHSA staff.

Daniel Gotera joins us as a Senior Director. Many people in the community will know Daniel because he has spent the last 17 years as a Sports Anchor/Reporter and most recently was with KHOU television station. Among his many notable accomplishments, he is a 5-time Emmy Award Winner and 6-time Associated Press Award Winner. He has covered four World Series, three Super Bowls, two MLS Cups, and three Final Fours. He already knows many of our current Houston pro athletes and Olympians, so the transition to assist us with all things sports, including the televised Houston Sports Awards event, should be very smooth. Stay tuned for more exciting news about next year’s show. Daniel is also fluent in Spanish.

Also joining HCHSA as Senior Director of Operations is John Coppins. John graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Business Management and has spent the last twelve years working with the United States Golf Association (USGA). He was Director of the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open, amongst other notable events within his annual oversight. Before arriving at the USGA, he worked as a Program Specialist with the Florida Department of Education to administer three different State of Florida-funded scholarship programs, where he coordinated and transferred funding to over 200 post-secondary institutions for 700+ college-bound scholarship recipients. John knows our community well because he helped plan the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open that took place at Champions Golf Club. He has experience overseeing large sporting events in the areas of operations, volunteers, sponsorships, ticket sales, and athlete affairs. We welcome his big-picture vision for our team.

Both Daniel and John bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective new roles at the Sports Authority. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have them join our team and look forward to personally introducing them to all our community partners and volunteers very soon.
